Anti-Fascistisch Front / Verzet

Met een recordaantal bezoekers op zaterdag, wederom veel volk op zondag, de zon, de relaxte sfeer, skalegende The Selecter (foto), de zigeunermuziek van Esma Redzepova en de balkanbeats van Mahala Raï Banda, en de Afrikaanse vibes van Habib Koté, was Mano Mundo dit jaar een voltreffer.

The Selecter speelde zaterdag voor een uitzinnig publiek. De energieke set werd besloten met hun grootste hit: On My Radio. Waarna als bisnummer een langgerekte Too Much Pressure volgde. Veertig minuten ver in hun set kondigde Pauline Black de nieuwe single van The Selecter aan: Big In The Body, Small In The Mind. Een remake van All You Fascists (Bound To Lose).

Voor wie de versie van Woody Guthrie of van Bill Brag kent, was het verrassend te horen hoe The Selecter dit antifascistisch strijdlied met vrolijke muziek ondersteunde. Na het optreden vroeg men ons om de tekst van Big In The Body, Small In The Mind. Vorige week publiceerden we hier de oorspronkelijke tekst, vandaag dus de geactualiseerde versie. Big In The Body, Small In The Mind wordt op 31 mei uitgebracht, als voorbode van de nieuwe cd Made In Britain die op 1 september verschijnt.
